POLANSKI to bring a film to the Cannes Festival

“Based on a true story” (“D’après une histoire vraie” in the French original) is the latest film by Roman Polanski, and a late addition to this year’s Cannes program. The film was adapted from the namesake novel by author Delphine de Vigan. In it, a writer (played by French actress Emmanuelle Seigner, Polanski’s real-life wife) living in Paris publishes an autobiographical novel, and it does not go over well with her relatives who now have to face unwanted exposure because of it. Her ties to her family become strained and the writer slides into torment and frustration until a mysterious woman (played by Eva Green) insinuates herself into the writer’s life, slowly turning her into a vampire (both artistically and physically speaking).

Of note is the fact that Olivier Assayas wrote the screenplay.

This is a French-Belgian production, no release date has been set as of yet. Film was lensed by Pawel Edelman. Polanski was last in Cannes in 2013 with a film called “Venus in Fur.”

Ali Naderzad will be traveling to Cannes on May 16th to cover the seventieth edition of the Cannes Festival.
