For your consideration: Pee-Wee Herman as the next greatest comeback since Mickey Rourke appeared buffed in a ring in “The Wrestler”? We think so.

Most recently Paul Reubens, aka Pee-Wee Herman, had a successful run on Broadway with “The Pee-Wee Herman Show on Broadway,” which opened at the Sondheim Theatre in November 2010. Successful is understating it—Pee-Wee’s show was a triumph. The latest news is that Image Entertainment has acquired home video rights and will be releasing the Blu-Ray and DVD version this month.

The other thing that tipped us off to the impending Pee-Wee Herman comeback is the social mediameter: Pee-Wee fervor is lighting up the boards (Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare). On Facebook he’s got over 500,000 fans – not bad for a guy who’s made only sporadic appearances in the last few years (from Reno 911! to “The Nightmare Before Christmas”). And then, there’s that genius moment when Herman, vying for an Emmy nod for his work on the aforementioned Broadway show, photoshopped his widely-recognizable head over the body of Melissa Leo, spoofing her self-financed Oscar ads from last February.
