Daniel Radcliffe gets stuck in the friends zone

According to a story in Variety Daniel Radcliffe will soon appear in a new romantic comedy called “The F Word.” In it he plays a young man trapped in the “friend zone” with a charming young lady who’s in a relationship with someone else. A theme previously encountered in “No Strings Attached” starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher the complexity of men-women friends relationships seems to be returning to the fore of American comedies.

Canadian filmmaker Michael Dowse (“Goon” starring Marc-André Grondin) will direct Radcliffe (“Harry Potter”) who appears alongside Zoe Kazan (“I Hate Valentine’s Day,” “Ruby Sparks”). “The F Word” is based on a screenplay by Elan Mastai (“Alone in the Dark”; 2005) itself adapted from the play “Exhibit Toothpaste and Cigars” by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi. Principal photography should start in mid-August on location in Canada.

Radcliffe will also soon be appearing in “Horns,” a new supernatural thriller by Alexandre Aja (“The Hills Have Eyes,” “Piranha 3D” — read Lita Robinson’s review), itself adapted from the bestseller by Joe Hill. It’s the story of a young man who wakes up with a hangover to discover that he grew horns during the night (happens to us all the time). And then there’s the crappy news that his girlfriend got murdered.

Finally, the sorcerer’s apprentice landed the starring role in the American drama “Kill Your Darlings” alongside Ben Foster, Dane DeHaan and Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”). This film is based on the true-story murder of David Kammerer by Lucien Carr, who was friends with Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs. Radcliffe will play Allen Ginsberg.
