British actor Bob Hoskins, famous for his role in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” has had to hang up his actor’s shoes due to Parkinson’s disease, his agent said yesterday.

“Bob Hoskins would like to announce that he will retire after a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease made last fall,” said his agent in a statement.

Aged 69, the London thespian had been appearing in British television series before starting a career in Hollywood.

“He wishes to thank all the wonderful people with whom he worked for years and all his fans who supported him throughout a wonderful career,” his agent added.

In his last role to date, Bob Hoskins playd one of the seven dwarves in “Snow White and the hunter,” released this year, alongside American actress Kristen Stewart.

Hoskins had received wide acclaim for his portrayal of Detective Eddie Valiant in 1988’s “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” which combined film and animation. He was as comfortable playing in Spielberg movies (“Hook”; 1991) as he was being cast in indies, harder-to-discern and troubling films like “Felicia’s Journey,” by Atom Egoyan.
