Toronto | OPENING DAY

Last Updated: September 8, 2012By Tags: , , ,

The Toronto Festival launched yesterday with Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt on hand to promote “Looper,” screening out of competition (the fact that Gordon-Levitt, virtually unknown internationally, is first to walk the Toronto steps is noteworthy. Just when we thought Jeremy Renner was squarely in the leading-man chair, Gordon-Levitt swoops out of nowhere to steal the spotlight–good on him!). The Cameron Bailey-helmed festival will screen some of the films discovered in Cannes this past May notably, “On the Road” by Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles, starring Kristen Stewart and “The Paperboy” by “Precious” director Lee Daniels with Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey in the cast.

Apparently Stewart’s recent fall from grace has struck a chord with film fans who came fervently to show their support for the “Twilight” star (pictured), brandishing banners and placards outside the festival’s entrance showing Stewart flipping the bird.
