DiCaprio to take a break from acting, champion cause of the environment
In an interview with German daily Bild Leonardo DiCaprio said he is planning on leaving show business, for a while at least (see interview here–in German). “I am a bit drained,” he declared. “I’m now going to take a long, long break. I’ve done three films in two years and I’m just worn out,” the “Shutter Island” actor said (read our review).
Out promoting “Django Unchained,” in which he plays an American plantation and slave owner, DiCaprio said he would be traveling around the world to take action for the environment. The actor with whom he shared the marquee for “Shutter Island,” Mark Ruffalo, is an environmental activist as well, speaking regularly about fracking via Twitter and on environmental blogs.
In 2012 Leonardo DiCaprio campaigned for the creation of a marine sanctuary in the Southern Ocean to protect thousands of species.
A nearly forty years of age, the actor is apparently well aware of his status as someone who’s able to instigate change on a large scale and raise awareness: “I want to help people for whom things are not going so well precisely because they go so well for me,” he told Bild.
